Invertebrates
The invertebrate collections are divided in alcohol and
formalin preserved invertebrates, dry-pinned invertebrates, mainly terrestrial
insects, and a dry shell
collection. Incorporated in these collections are the Van Regtenen
Altena Mollusk collection and an Agricultural
Pest Insect collection.
The estimated number of specimen
holdings, preserved in different levels of curation, is
- 250.000 terrestrial invertebrates
- 100.000 miscellaneous insects
- 25.000 land arthropods
- 3500 aquatic invertebrates
Recent activities include the
collecting of invertebrates at different Rapid Assesment Programs (RAPs).

Expeditions.
The Invertebrate division has also
been very busy with projects, funded by other organisations, which goal was to
study insects of medical importance.
